Realism in Fabrics

There aren't any words to do justice to this brilliant portfolio. I've never been a fan of coffee table books, but Figures in Fabric is a gift I would recommend to everyone. The detail in Ms. Lichtenfels' work is beyond dazzling. Her Madonna brought tears to my eyes.
Truly this woman's gift came from the gods.

These are not live models. These figures are sculptures from cloth.

Dioramas in Clay

These are so cute and so creative. I don't understand Chinese, so I don't know who the artist or artists are.

Here is one of a little girl, a chef in the garden.

And there is so much more.

Text on Texture

This gentleman's calligraphy evokes and provokes, drawing blood with ink along an incision so precise you might be tempted to believe him a surgeon.

But there is so much more to Graham McArthur.

Mendhi

Mendhi is the name given to the intricate & decorative application of Henna. In the past it has been used traditionally by Asian brides to symbolise love, fertility & prosperity. However, in recent years it has fused from traditional use into a new trendy & chic form of body art, which is now widely recognised around the globe.
Historically Henna originates from Asia. It has been used for centuries by Hindus, Muslims, Morrocans and many more ethnicities. In ancient times it was used as an effective treatment of small pox.
The traditional application of Henna to hands has for many years been used for symbolic purposes. Recent years have seen its usage span from treatment of minor skin disorders to the stimulation of hair growth. Henna is now widely used for beauty purposes i.e. colouring the hair and body art/tattooing. It can now be combined with jewels and coloured glitter to accentuate its delicate splendour.

Beauties

Iron-rich might be a word to describe these Texas longhorns created by sculptor, Wayne Rossi.
You'll find more of his metal critters, and much more, right here!

White China Clay

Granite produces a pure clay (called kaolinite). The more structured the kaolinite crystal, the higher quality its porcelain china.

All clays come from igneous rock, once molten magma, pushing up from the earth's center, only to be trapped in domes, mixing with the gasses, boron and flourine. But pale, pure, and well-structured clay comes from granite.

Granite → Feldspar (further decomposed by CO2 + H2O) → Kaolinite, Quartz, Potash

Pharmaceutical Inspiration

I've featured this artist before, but this new illustration of hers is too clever to miss. Note the not so subtle use of Fibonacci~oid organization in her composition.

I'm quickly becoming a fan of her haiku and American Sentences, which she sometimes refers to as Senryu. Senryu, as defined here by Wikipedia, is:

"...a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in construction. However, senryū tend to be about human foibles...and senryū are often cynical or darkly humorous"

Saints Alive!

God has inspired the most brilliant artists in our world. Murals, paintings, icons, and jewelry, all created in his image.

And there's more. The Orthodox Christians have a nice collection of religious icons for you to browse.

(aka) ATCs are the up and coming fad amongst the matronly set. They're collecting them and sharing them like the old bubblegum cards.

Combat Artists

I think it takes a special breed to face up to the realities of violence, and put it down with ink and charcoal.

I think this Marine, CWO Michael Fay, who painted Taking a Knee is probably the best combat artist in our lifetime.
